I guess you can say I have sailing in my DNA; I began sailing as a youngster on the various sailboats my family raced and cruised over the years. Then in my teens, I followed my passion and became a sailmaker with Shore Sails in Seattle. This was a natural segway to participating in all the local regattas in the Northwest, and then to more and more international yachting events. The noteworthy events includ 4 ocean crossings to Hawaii, the Big Boat Series, Key West Race Week, the Kenwood Cup, SORC, Antigua Race Week as well as multiple World Championship's in one-design classes including Star, Etchell, J-24, TransPac 52, and Nautor Swan, amongst others. My passion for being on the water has also included extensive cruising with my family in the beautiful Pacific Northwest, as well as the more exotic cruising grounds of the Caribbean and Europe. We have explored these locals on both power and sail boat and we love it all. Watch for me with my wife, 8 year old daughter and two Golden Retrievers - we hope to see you out there cruising!

There is a time When all young men Harken to the Sea!
Well I so harkened to the Yacht Business, and only one reason was the Sea! In the recession of the early 80s, I saw nothing but opportunity in a fledgling industry! It was the opportunity to work closely with an amazing cross section of people at the most positive times in their lives - when buying and selling the object of their passion! Many of those relationships have grown into life long friendships! It was the opportunity to help grow an industry, by forming the Yacht Brokers Association of BC, which continues today and is a model copied elsewhere in North America. It was the opportunity to work with Roger Glassford, my partner of many years, and together to grow Grand Yachts into a polished, professional sales organization representing two world class product lines: Grand Banks and Fleming! It is the opportunity to grow as a person, to develop my understanding of yachts, people and cruising, and to make a difference!

Boating has always been an important part of my life. I fell in love with the water, fishing and boating at an early age visiting my Grandparent’s cottage. In 1985 I entered into the business of boating gaining my first job at a local marina on the Trent Severn Waterway and have worked in the industry every year since. My attraction to the ocean has taken me all over the world. I have chartered sailboats in Australia, fished around the world and scuba dived under many oceans. While completing my degree at the University of Toronto, I became a trained mechanic for Mercruiser, OMC and Volvo Penta.
In 1995 I visited Vancouver, BC for the first time and never left. Later in 1997, I founded Freedom Marine. We’ve since grown to become one of the Pacific Northwest’s premiere new yacht and brokerage dealerships.
In December 2008, I was assigned the position of President for the BC Yacht Brokers Association. I’m honoured to be given the roll.
I’m very proud of our staff, products and attention to detail. Let our knowledge, experience and genuine care go to work for you. I promise to give you the FREEDOM to enjoy boating.
