Born in Toronto and spent many years sailing at RCYC. With a father in the Boat Show business and lots of industry contacts he had the opportunity to sail or run many of the C&C, CS and Hinterhoeller boats while they were in the prototype stages.

Paul moved to Vancouver after a few short visits helping with the Vancouver Boat Show and ended up as Sales Manager at Western Outboard. He moved on to Tri-shore Yachts and then opened Paul Shield Yacht Sales Ltd. in 1983.

He has always been very active in promoting recreational marine interests; with the BC Marine Trades Association, the BC Yacht Brokers Association, BC Boat Shows, Port Sidney and Victoria Boat Shows and the original BCYBA Certification Program. He is a member of Royal Vancouver Yacht Club and Thunderbird Yacht Club and has raced and cruised locally and offshore.

Over the years he has handled just about every power or sail boat imaginable and has often found that some of the boats are more interesting than you might think at first. If it suits the buyer and the job the buyer is trying to do with it at the time it might be the perfect fit. It might not be what I would want,…but it keeps the business interesting.” The devil is in the details of matching the client, boat, equipment, location, price,…happily, most times it all comes together!
